A few days ago someone I know had shown me a white 95 honda civic in fair condition. It had a ton of miles on it but ran very good and had a good amount of work put into it so for the price of $800 it would still need a little bit of money and work to make it road worthy but that was a good price. I told him if he had it in a few days to get back to me because I would be interested in buying it from him. He told me well it is my wifes and we do have another guy looking at it but if not they would let me know.
Alright so here it is a few days later. This guy stops by my house with the car, his wife and brother. He asked if I was still interested and I told him I wanted to take it out for a test drive and then we will see. So we take it out, all goes well, get back to my house and tell him that they will have to give me a ride to the bank to get the money for the purchase. This is not an issue so we go to the bank, get the money and arrive back at my house. He said that they would like to take it and go empty their belongings out of it and would return shortly.
Now at this point you are surely thinking OMG what an idiot he gave them the money and now he is letting them bounce with his ride. Well no that is not what happened. I told them that would be fine and that I would pay them when they returned after signing a bill of sale. I have been ripped off enough to know you don’t do that. So anyway now it is about 5 hours later and I am working when I hear yelling that someone is steeling my car.
I prepare myself and run outside to find a man about 8 inches taller than I who must outweigh me by at least 65 pounds or so with his foot inside my car with the door open. He tells me he is repossessing the car and shows me a paper that was not even completely filled out or notarized for that matter. I pointed this out and he said it didn’t matter. I said fine I will call the police and see what they have to say about this as I stood in front of the vehicle to block him from leaving from that direction anyway. Others at this time started to go towards the back of the vehicle to stop him from leaving that way either. He drove the car into my legs and continued to drive so I had to get out of the way at this point or be run over.
The police show up about 20 minutes later and there is nothing they can do. The vin number that I verified in the window tag on the dash to match the bill of sale does not return any results for any vehicle. The officer even went as far as to try other possible variations in hope to find anything but nothing. Ok great so now we do not know who this guy is, what the real vin is for the car or anything for that matter other than what I have given you already. The man arrived on foot with a much younger female. He drove off to the opposite end of the street from which they came and she disappeared back the way they came.
There is no need to use full names for these individuals because it is already known amongst so many who they are so we can stick with a first name basis.
Now assumptions have been made here. The sellers of this vehicle Timothy and his wife Sabrina kept a separate copy of the bill of sale for themselves and after selling the car made no rush to leave so this was not a w00t we got the money and we are out. No no not at all. After utilizing my own resources to gather information we have a few theories but most prominent is this.
3 or more parties involved in a plot counts as conspiracy. We have the the wife who signed as buyer, I who signed as buyer and then the husband who signed as witness. Two other parties come in while one drives off with the car. It is suspected that the man is the wifes father or other relative. The three or more individuals plotted this out for days or more hence the copy of the bill of sale and the extended visit after the sale because they were not worried about anyone looking for the car or the alternative.
The married couple who were selling there car because they needed rent money and food for their kid… Ok I will stop that right there. Whatever if this was not plotted out the people who arrived how did they know to come to my house to get the vehicle in the first place. Yea well anyway justice will be served. Hands are tied for the police due to legalities and other political nonsense like budgets and all but they are not overly tied for me. The police need enough to go on before they can proceed. I am willing to bet money that what I gather is enough to convict every one of them for this and more. The reason being that after some thought into this it is really simple and the thought is that this is not the first time for this group and it is not just cars.
The officer did ask me why I did not stop the man from taking the car but I want to know as a citizen what more do I have the right to do. The only thing I can think of outside of what I did could endanger the lives of people surrounding me. A vehicle is a deadly weapon and even though I will use excessive force to stop someone from harming another person I don’t think this situation would call for that. Maybe if I were out in the back woods or something but this is a city street. The only person in harms way was myself for putting myself in his path. So I counted on the police for support here and let this crook drive away. All I have left to say is karma can be a very interesting thing and everything in life comes full circle and it helps to know people.
